Proudly supporting ''Ahmsa, opportunities for peace and development''.

Welcome to the reason and inspiration I am doing this. Colombia, one of the most beautiful countries I have come cross in my travels. The welcoming people, the rich culture and it's fertile earth are all huge drawing cards for this individual country. Unfortunately this country is hindered by many elements all entwined to the severe poverty and violence it possesses... government corruption, displacement, social cleansing, guerilla and paramilitarism are all day to day problems many Colombians are forced to live with. Here in Bogota where many of the youth are forced into the lifestyle of gangs, violence, drugs and prostitution. Ahmsa is an organization that is dedicated to pulling these kids away from these torments and offering them a better life.

Who are Ahmsa and what are they doing?

Ahmsa is a foundation made up of a young group of energetic, positive people dedicated to providing resources and education in the community which enables growth and development amongst the youth. "Meg@red" is one of the most recent projects: It is an Internet cafe that is managed independently by a group of locals aged from 18 to 25, headed by Nelson Obando who is the youngest of the group (see the profiles of Nelson and his team at the bottom of the page). These guys have been deprived access to a constant education but through Ahmsa they have been able to develop life long skills in:

1. Morals- Learning about the importance of respect for themselves, for others and for life itself, how to deal with personal differences without the use of violence and how to apply these morals into their day to day life.

2. Management- They receive training in how to start a business, how to run a business and customer service.

3. Technical Training- They receive training in the use of computers, basic software and Internet.

">Long Term Goals

Once we have got Megared up and running smoothly we will begin construction of an infirmary and another Megared in a nearby neighborhood by the name of Altos de Florida.

As great as Ahmsa's work has been for these people, it is all still a long process. Ahmsa and the staff at "Meg@red" still need a lot of support to achieve their goals and dreams. Here in a nutshell is where your donations will be going to. We are directly working with Milton, Ahmsa's Field Coordinator for Alto de Cazuca to constantly be aware of their needs and progress in this project.

On top of this here is a list of the items that are our priorites for Megared.

1. 5 computers

2. Photocopier / Scanner

3. Furniture (tables and chairs)

Please know that all of your donations will be going directly to the Meg@red project of Ahmsa and will not be funding any of my journey at all. Donations are now open.

To get a small insight to the problems mentioned above and before you consider donating to the cause I would appreciate you taking the time to view this video. We hope this will show you a broader picture of the situation and encourage you to get involved.
